FACS Daily
A daily anatomy + Facial Action Coding drill.
Today's drill order
Muscles
Origins, insertions, fiber direction — the anatomy under every expression.
AUs
Facial Action Coding System units grouped by region, with drill cues.
Smile (Duchenne)
Genuine vs social smile — the AU6 tell.
Tongue
Daily rest-posture awareness practice.
Daily principles
1. Accurate origins & insertions
Every muscle attaches where it really attaches; expression is pull from insertion toward origin.
Accurate origins & insertions: every muscle attaches where it really attaches; expression is pull from insertion toward origin.
2. Correct fiber directions
Wrinkles form perpendicular to fiber pull.
Wrinkles form perpendicular to fiber pull; get the pull vector right.
3. Correct layering
Superficial muscles drape over deep ones, and depth changes surface form.
Superficial muscles (zygomaticus, risorius) drape over deep ones (buccinator, levator anguli oris); depth changes surface form.
4. Skull landmarks first
Brow ridge, zygomatic arch, canine fossa, oblique line of mandible anchor everything.

5. Symmetry & natural asymmetry
Real faces are slightly asymmetric; deliberate asymmetry reads alive, accidental reads broken.

6. Surface vs deep understanding
Know what shows on skin versus what only moves underneath.
Surface vs deep understanding: know what shows on skin (bulge, crease, furrow) vs what only moves underneath.
